Your office is in Toronto. Why “Pacific” Wellness Institute?
Here at The Pacific Wellness Institute, the East meets West as a multidisciplinary practice. The Institute’s founder (TH. Tanaka, Ph.D) originally brought his Oriental medicine experience and education from across the Pacific and established The Pacific Wellness Institute in Toronto, Canada. Natural therapies are blended with cutting-edge technologies and scientific research while acupuncture and shiatsu remain the primary treatment modalities.
The word “pacific” from a literal sense means “to pacify” or “restore peace“. The definition is coherent with The Pacific Wellness Institute’s vision: Restore people’s health in peace of mind and body.
How long have you been at your current location?
The founder of the Pacific Wellness Institute, opened his practice in Toronto on Yorkville Avenue in the Fall of 1990. In February 1994, he relocated to the current location at 80 Bloor Street West.
I have been coming to you for a very long time and I’ve been amazed at your growth and expansion over the years!
Since we opened a very modest office in the 1990s, the practice has rapidly grown without any heavy promotional effort. Our success is credited to many of our satisfied and loyal clients like yourself who placed great confidence and trust in us and who have been telling people they care about to come and experience our service. THANK YOU! We are pleased to also note that a growing number of new clients are coming through referrals from their physicians.
You will almost never find our advertisements in any media such as newspapers, radio, or magazines. The budget typically used for such advertisement has instead been reinvested in the improvement of the facility and research activities to ensure the continuous delivery of the best possible care and services.

I have a health problem. But I do not know how to get started (which therapy do I need, etc.)?
Please call 416-929-6958. Our clinical administrator can discuss with you and guide you through the process. We recommend that you submit the General (acupuncture) Questionnaire (download form here). In many circumstances, we recommend that you see our clinic director for an initial consultation so that he can discuss your case with you and suggest the best possible approach.
What type of engagement do you have with your practitioners?
Many “multi-disciplinary” clinics rent rooms to practitioners. Under this type of landlord/tenant arrangement, an owner must select applicants not only based on their professional background but also on their financial ability to pay the rent. It is a normal and necessary business practice.
At Pacific Wellness, our practitioners are paid on a commission basis. Following a review of applicants’ resumes, the clinic director personally tests a short-list of applicants before they can be further considered. Only then do they enter a three month probationary trial. The only criteria when selecting a new practitioner is the professional quality of the applicant whose only concern is practicing and perfecting their craft. Do you do house calls or office visits?
We are not offering any house calls at this time. However, we do occasionally send our therapists/practitioners to company events and conventions. For example, we do chair massage for groups of employees, or educational talks related to various aspects of health and wellness. If you would like more information regarding any of these wellness options, please call us at 416-929-6958.
Are any of your services covered by OHIP?
No. None of our services are covered by OHIP. However, our services are covered by many employee benefit and private insurance plans. In addition, we have various saving and payment plans available. Please see the Administration page for details.
Do you have Gift Certificates?
Yes. You may purchase Gift Certificates in person, over the phone or via fax.
Do you have any other locations?
Many clients have been asking us to open another location for their convenience. However, we believes that in order to maintain the highest quality service, it is important to stay focused on only one. Our type of practice requires consistent dedication and a very close attention to detail. It is highly individualized and personalized in nature and it is hard to replicate and create standardized service without jeopardizing the quality. It is certainly not like selling hamburgers.
