As you can see in the above picture, Alex was not obese before he started our program. His Body Mass Index was 25 which is borderline between normal and overweight. Alex, like many other people, wanted to shape up a bit to be healthier and look better. His program therefore focused on improvement of his body composition instead of solely focusing on weight loss. Alex achieved the improved body composition and weight loss and most importantly gained more energy and better health. Here we reveal the history of Alex's body composition change with his permission. Congratulations Alex on achieving your goal!
Here is the note from Alex:
First of all, I'd like to highlight all goals attained: 22 pounds lost in about three months, from 162 to 140 pounds. Fat content in my Body Mass Index decreased from almost 24 to 17 percent and my muscle content actually increased 1 pound. As well, I developed invaluable benefits such as a better diet, exercise, habits, and developed more commitment, discipline and perseverance in pursuing a goal, because I could see immediate and consistent results to my efforts. This wouldn't be attained without the support and professionalism of The Pacific Wellness Institute, in particular from Dr. Tim Tanaka and his individual-oriented health program.
I strongly recommend Dr. Tim Tanaka's Pacific Wellness Institute to anybody with the goal of improving overall health, including weight, exercise habits, appearance, diet, energy, breathing habits and self-well being. Thank you again Pacific Wellness Institute and Dr. Tim Tanaka.

June, 2003 Report on Alex Update
Alex visited us for a follow-up assessment and consultation
in April, 2003. He gained 2 lbs since his last appointment
in July, 2002. However, the weight gain resulted from increased
muscle mass while his body fat percentage has actually decreased
(see the updated chart below). So, over the 10 months since
we have seen him last, his body composition has improved further
and he is more fit and healthy. This is a great success!
Most of the weight loss experienced from calorie-restrictive
diets is from the loss of muscle and water, which leads to
further deterioration of body composition and slowing down
of the body's metabolism. This is the main reason why most
people regain the weight that they have lost within a year
as indicated by recent studies.
Alex has committed himself to healthier eating habits and
maintaining his regular exercise regime, however, he admits
that he has not been rigid in his routine either. When losing
weight properly like Alex did during the first few months
of his program, it becomes much easier to continue the progress
without additional sacrifices. Improved body composition normally
leads to increase in basal metabolic rate, accompanied by
natural reduction of weight and better health.
